Biography

I am a GIS scientist, developer, and educator with over a decade of experience in spatial data science, geospatial data engineering, and analysis. My expertise spans Python, JavaScript, SQL, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, QGIS, R, FME, and the Esri Suite (ArcGIS, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, ArcPy). I specialize in machine learning applications in GIS, including K-Means Clustering, Decision Trees, Random Forest, and Deep Learning for satellite image segmentation. Currently, I serve as a Senior IT Geospatial Analyst at the City of Austin, Transportation and Public Works Department, where I develop GIS solutions for Vision Zero, automate workflows using Python, SQL, and FME, and implement web-based GIS applications with ArcGIS Enterprise and PostgreSQL. In addition to my industry experience, I am an educator and researcher, having taught GIS programming, spatial databases, and web mapping at institutions such as Clark University and Northwest Missouri State University. My academic background includes a Ph.D. in GIS and two master’s degrees in Sustainability Studies and Business Communication. I am passionate about solving geospatial challenges, optimizing data-driven decision-making, and leveraging open-source tools to create innovative GIS applications. Beyond GIS, I am fluent in English, Persian, and Italian, having lived and studied in multiple countries. For more information, explore my CV, LinkedIn, Medium, or Personal Weblog.
